The coaches in the Minnesota Swimming family are professionals with a passion for the sport of competitive swimming. Every coach must complete several layers of training: Basic life saving skills, Coaches Safety Training, Level 2 Background Check, Concussion Testing, and Athlete Protection Training.

New members will be required to have their non-athlete application form and payment processed by their LSC registrar before they can sign in to complete the course.

USA Swimming is NOT taking renewals at this time. If you have already taken the course, the earliest you will be required to retake it is in September 2013. They will begin taking renewals in summer 2013. **

Foundations of Coaching 101

Coach 2013 Requirements (rev. 1/18/2013)

  1. All new coaches who register after February 4, 2013 are required to take the NEW Foundations of Coaching 101 PRIOR to becoming a coach member.

  2. If you have new coaches at your club who registered between September 1, 2012 and February 3, 2013, you need to be aware of how the new requirement applies to them….they have options!

  3. Coaches registering in 2013 for their 2nd year of Coach Membership are still required to complete the existing Foundations of Coaching DVD based online test.

On Line Safety Training for Swim Coaches Test

INSTRUCTIONS TO START THE STSC TEST

In order to take the STSC online written test, you must create an account on the USA Swimming website and login. If you are not logged in, you cannot access the test.

Test sign-up:

  • Fill in all of the required personal information before beginning. Make sure to include both your FIRST and LAST names.
  • Make sure you enter the proper Local Swim Committee or LSC. If you are unsure, please click on the LSC Map.
  • Select Safety Training for Swim Coaches from the drop down box.
  • Click "Start Test." You now have two options:
  • Take the test directly online
  • Print a paper copy of the test to work on offline. Note: If you chose to print a paper copy you must go back and enter your answers online. There is NO mail in option

You can start and stop as many times as you wish before submitting your completed test. Click "Save and Restart Later" after any question to exit, then simply click "Resume" in the "Options" box on the opening page to continue working. You can start where you left off by entering the question number in the "Go" box.

A score of 20 out of 25 is a passing grade. If you do not score 20, you must retake the test. You may take it as many times as you want to in order to pass. Note that each time you take it you will get a slightly different version of the test.
